Our vision at Riwaka school is to equip our students for a future that is centred around Information and Communication Technology.
Our entire school is networked and has access to the internet, enabling our students to have the world wide web at their fingertips. The school's broadband has been overhauled and mass access is now possible.
Each classroom has a new Macintosh desktop computer (senior classes have two). We also have three portable computer suites, which we call COWS (Computers on Wheels) These contain 48 Apple laptops (iBooks.) Each syndicate has one of these. Tese machines are imaged each year, reloading the operating systems, deleting unwanted files and correcting programme codes. This means too that they all do the same things.
All classrooms have data projectors and interactive whiteboards.
Students are using computers to research, problem-solve, and to present information in exciting ways. The students are becoming adept at creating iMovies, slideshows, powerpoints, and many other ways of sharing their work. This ensures that tasks are relevant and interesting to them as individuals. Senior students are also being taught to set up class websites and to design web pages, and small groups are contributing to this school website Middle and senior students are taught to set up blogs
